Every Day More than 10,000 Fans of COMEDY CENTRAL's New Series "Crank Yankers" Make "Crank Yankers" Calls Thanks To A First-Of-Its-Kind Marketing Campaign Powered By eStara Technology.
Reston, VA June 24, 2002 - True to its tag line: "Pick it Up. Its for You," fans of COMEDY CENTRAL's new series "Crank Yankers" now have the ability to send free "Crank Calls" over the Internet using eStara Push to Talksm services. This first-of-its-kind marketing campaign is generating tens of thousands of calls daily.
The novel promotion uses technology from eStara, Inc. that lets users send a Voice Over the Internet (VoIP) call containing an audio "crank call" clip from "Crank Yankers" to a friend. The call is synchronized with an outbound email sent to the call recipient that also promotes "Crank Yankers" while letting recipients know who sent the call.

The COMEDY CENTRAL campaign implemented a number of call security and call authorization measures to prevent abuse. Each "Crank Yankers" call requires an individual authorization code, the service tracks IP addresses and telephone numbers to prevent abuse or unauthorized use of the system. The system also sets time parameters to prevent late night calls.
To make a "Crank Yankers" call, a comedycentral.com visitor must enter a phone number and email address for the intended recipient into an eStara-created user interface. The caller selects a "Crank Yankers" clip and the call is initiated. At the completion, the recipient receives an email alert about the crank call.
